NEWARK, NJ – Three Highlanders earned United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) All-Region honors, the organization announced Monday evening.
Freshman Fabio Mastromarino and graduate student Paul Veltrup were named All-Region First Team, while freshman Julian Detering earned All-Region Honorable Mention.
Fabio Mastromarino | Men's Epee | First Team
Mastromarino, a freshman from Pistoia, Italy, captured a silver medal at the 2026 NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional. He helped lead the men's epee squad to the team title at the 2026 MACFA Championships and opened his collegiate career with a silver medal at the 2025 Coach Nikki Franke Classic.
For the season, Mastromarino posted a 57–6 overall record, good for a 90.48 winning percentage.
Paul Veltrup | Men's Epee | First Team
Veltrup, a graduate student from Grefrath, Germany, placed fourth at the 2026 NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional. He was part of the MACFA Championship-winning men's epee squad, while also earning an individual bronze medal at the conference championships.
Veltrup began the season with a gold medal at the 2025 Coach Nikki Franke Classic and finished the year with a 93–14 record (86.92 winning percentage).
Julian Detering | Men's Foil | Honorable Mention
Detering, a freshman from Palo Alto, Calif., was the top finisher for the Highlanders' foil squad at the 2026 NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional, placing 11th overall. He was also part of the foil team that finished third at the 2026 MACFA Championships.
Detering concluded the regular season with a 48–18 record (72.73 winning percentage).

USFCA All-Region selections are determined based on results and field size at each NCAA Regional competition.
