​NEWARK, NJ–Freshman Henrique Sardinha has been selected America East Conference Rookie of the Week the conference office announced on Monday.

In a 1-0 week for NJIT, Sardinha guided the Highlanders to a 1-0 America East Conference victory at Binghamton.

Sardinha, who hails from Lisbon, Portugal, scored the lone goal of the match with less than a minute left in the first half to give NJIT the 1-0 lead.

The goal for Sardinha is the first of his young career in a Highlander uniform.

With the win, NJIT picks up its first America East Conference victory and stands at .500 in league play.

Sardinha and the Highlanders will wrap up the non-conference slate on Tuesday when NJIT travels to Drexel.  Kickoff is slated for 6pm on FloSports.
