SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The NJIT women's soccer team (3-3-1) fell to Seton Hall (3-3-1) by a score of 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field.
In the 86th minute, Seton Hall's Skyler Matusz scored the lone goal after a well-placed pass from Rachel Gerrie.
Both teams had significant opportunities to score in the first half. In the 25th minute, Seton Hall's Natalie Tavana hit the post with her shot. A few minutes later, The Pirates had a chance on an open net, but an NJIT defender blocked the attempt. NJIT's best chance came in the 40th minute when
Briana Andreoli had an open shot in the box, but goalkeeper Anna Prawer made a kick save to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
Maria Nogueira and
Ciara Adams each took one shot on goal in the second half. Seven Highlanders played the full 90 minutes, including
Samantha Constantine,
Merle Hueser, Andreoli,
Kennedy Westbrook, Nogueira, Adams, and
Taylor Pape.
Seton Hall led in shots (14-11), corner kicks (5-0), and possession (57%-43%). NJIT led in shots on goal, 5-3.
