Matteucci Announces Three Newcomers Ahead of Fall 2024 Slate

NEWARK, NJ – NJIT men's tennis head coach Marco Matteucci has announced the addition of three new members to the 2024-25 squad as well as the full slate of matches for the fall.

Joining the Highlanders this season will be a pair of freshmen, Juan Diego Argenal and Soma Fukuhara, as well as one transfer, Sadhista Linga. Those three will join NJIT's eight returnees in taking part in 11 matches during the fall semester.

NJIT is coming off an historic season, winning the Southland Conference title for the program's first ever conference championship at any level. The Highlanders won 19 matches overall, their most wins in a season since 2009-10.

Juan Diego Argenal
Argenal comes to Newark from Guatemala City, Guatemala. He claimed the top spot in the J30 Christiansted ITF Tournament, and also was a winner of the X10 UTSA Level 6 Tournament. He also reached the semifinals in the Premier Tennis Tour 500 and the U16 Junior Davis Cup. Argenal plans to major in industrial engineering.

Soma Fukuhara
Fukuhara joins the Highlanders as a freshman from Karatsu, Japan. He reached the Finals in both singles and doubles play of J30 Osaka Tournament, including a straight sets victory over the top ranked player in the field. Fukuhara also won team Inter-High School Championships for Yanagawa High School. He plans to major in business.

Sadhista Linga
Linga comes to NJIT after spending his freshman season at Merrimack College. At Merrimack, he posted a 9-8 record in singles play. Linga attended Marlboro High School in Marlboro, N.J, where he won a Shore Conference Championship, a Monmouth County Championship, and was named Group Four All-State Second Team. Linga plans to major in financial technology.

Fall 2024 Schedule
The Highlanders have 11 events on their schedule for the Fall 2024 semester, starting with the Delaware Invitational from Sep. 13-15. NJIT will also pay visits to Yale, Saint Joseph's and Drexel this fall. Four ITA events are featured this fall, the first being the ITA All-American on Tulsa's campus from Sep. 21-29.
