EMMITSBURG, Md. - Mikayla Balio scored the first NJIT goal of the season in the 52nd minute, leading the NJIT women's soccer team (1-1-1) to a 1-0 victory against Mount St. Mary's (2-1-0) on Sunday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium.
Balio's goal came from a well-placed pass from
Emily Jozak, netting her first goal of the season and second of her career. Jozak recorded her first point as a Highlander with the assist.
Throughout the first 45 minutes, NJIT's best opportunities included a header by
Briana Andreoli off a corner kick in the 42nd minute and a shot by
Bella Ramirez, both of which were saved by the Mount St. Mary's goalkeeper Adelaide Paredes. Jozak also had a shot on goal in the 22nd minute that was stopped by Paredes.
Jozak led the team with six shots, including four on target. NJIT goalkeeper
Mojisola Ayodele recorded a career-high four saves to secure the team's second consecutive shutout.
The Highlanders dominated Mount St. Mary's in shots (19-6) and shots on goal (9-4). NJIT earned its first win in the all-time series against Mount St. Mary's.

NJIT will begin a two-game homestand against in-state rival Saint Peter's on Thursday, August 29 at 6:00 p.m. at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
