Caputo Scores Two Goals, Highlanders Earn Third Straight Shutout With Win Against Saint Peter’s

Caputo records her first career multi-goal game.

NEWARK, N.J. - Caroline Caputo scored two goals to lead the NJIT women's soccer team (2-1-1) to a 2-0 victory against Saint Peter's (2-2) on Thursday at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium. The Highlanders earned their third straight shutout with the win.
 
Caputo's first goal came in the 53rd minute with assists from Emily Jozak and Mikayla Balio. Balio and Jozak both recorded points for the second consecutive game. Caputo scored her second goal in the 62nd minute from just outside the box, assisted by Ciara Adams. The Spring Lake Heights, New Jersey native recorded her first career multi-goal game. Adams notched her first assist of the season.
 
NJIT had an opportunity to break the tie in the 42nd minute when Jozak put the ball in the back of the net, but a Highlander foul nullified the goal, leaving the game scoreless at halftime. The Red and Blue outshot Saint Peter's 7-2 in the first half.
 
In the 86th minute, an NJIT player fouled a Saint Peter's player in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Goalkeeper Samantha Constantine made a diving save to preserve the shutout for the Highlanders. The Oakton, Virginia product made two saves.
   
Jozak led the team with five shots, including three on target. NJIT led Saint Peter's in shots (15-7), shots on goal (9-2), corner kicks (9-2), and possession (54%-46%).
 
The Highlanders extended their winning streak in the all-time series against the Peacocks to 13 games.
 
NEXT UP
NJIT will play at home again on Sunday, September 1 against in-state rival Rider at 1:00 p.m. at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
