Men's Lacrosse Drops America East Home Opener To Binghamton

NEWARK, N.J. — The NJIT men's lacrosse team lost its second contest in America East play, 17-12, to the Binghamton Bearcats Saturday afternoon at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

HIGHLANDER LEADERS
1ST QUARTER
  • Roberts put the Highlanders on the board at the 13:54 mark with an unassisted score.
  • Binghamton responded in under 90 seconds (12:38) to even the score at 1-1.
  • NJIT retook the lead at 2-1 on a Romaine-to-Bowie connection (11:33).
  • The Bearcats tied things again at the 9:18 mark with an assisted score.
  • NJIT's third came from the crosse of Rettberg and the dish from Muscatella (8:14).
  • Binghamton would score two straight to take their first lead of the game, 4-3, with 7:02 remaining in the quarter.
  • Sininsky took things into his own hands, scoring unassisted to bring the teams even again at 4-4 (5:53).
  • Another solo effort, this time by Binghamton, put the Bearcats back in front, 5-4 (3:08) and an assisted goal gave Binghamton a twNEXT UP
  • NJIT hit the road to face defending America East tournament champion Bryant on Saturday, March 30. First faceoff is scheduled for Noon.o-score advantage, 6-4, with 1:20 left. 

2ND QUARTER
  • NJIT scored two goals in rapid succession - an unassisted wrap around goal by Roberts (14:17) and a connection from Kroeger to Miller (14:10) - to tie the contest at 6-6.
  • Binghamton regained their lead at the 6:59 mark but a Muscatella score from a Cover assist (6:18) knotted things again at 7-7.
  • Sininsky's second put NJIT back ahead, 8-7 at the 4:06 mark, where the score would stand until halftime.
3RD QUARTER
  • Binghamton leveled the score at 8-8 with the first goal of the second half (13:55) and took a 9-8 lead at the 11:45 mark.
  • NJIT capitalized on a man-up opportunity to tie the game at 9-9 on a Muscatella-to-Roberts connection (9:45).
  • Binghamton scored two straight to take an 11-9 edge with 5:11 remaining in the frame.
  • Muscatella cut the deficit in half and pulled NJIT back within one (11-10) on a goal assisted by Miller.
  • The Bearcats went ahead by three with two more goals (13-10) to close the period.

4TH QUARTER
  • NJIT opened the final period with a Muscatella-to-Miller score to make the score 13-11.
  • Binghamton scored two goals less than a minute apart to take its largest lead of the game, 15-11.
  • Muscatella put away a pass from Thompson to move the score to 15-12 with 10:56 to go in the game.
  • Another connected Binghamton score reestablished their four-goal lead, 16-12, with 6:33 remaining and another goal (4:11) moved the score to 17-12.

NJIT will hit the road to face defending America East tournament champion Bryant on Saturday, March 30. First faceoff is scheduled for Noon.
