HANOVER, NH - The NJIT men's tennis team earned one of biggest wins in program history on Saturday morning, defeating #67 Dartmouth 4-3 at the Boss Tennis Center.
NJIT improved to 10-1 on the season with the win, while the Big Green saw its record evened at 6-6.
"What a day for our guys and for our program," said third-year Head Coach
Marco Matteucci. "From start to finish, everyone believed we could do this and fought hard to achieve this win."
The Highlanders got on the scoreboard first, winning two of three doubles matches to go ahead 1-0.
Pablo Perez Ramos and
Wil Jenkins won 6-3 at the top doubles spot, while
Nejc Skorjanc and German Andujar Lopez were 6-1 winners at the second doubles position.
NJIT then won the top three singles positions to get the four points needed to win the match. Perez Ramos (first singles) and Jenkins (second singles) each won in three sets, while Skorjanc (third singles) was victorious in straight sets.
"Nejc played at a level that I've been waiting for him to get back to and Wil just kept us alive by fighting to win the second and third sets," added Matteucci. "Wil ran down every ball and fought for every point. Pablo saved three match points and gave it all out there."
The Highlanders return to the court on Friday when they travel to Annapolis to take on Navy. First serve is set for 2pm.
