ANNAPOLIS, MD - The NJIT men's tennis team improved to 11-1 on the season with a 4-0 shutout win of host Navy on Friday afternoon at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
NJIT's victory was its fifth in a row and the Highlanders have now defeated the Midshipmen in three-straight seasons.
The Highlanders went ahead 1-0 thanks to two victories in doubles. NJIT's first doubles win came at the top spot as
Pablo Perez Ramos and
Wil Jenkins continued their successful season as the team's top doubles pairing with a 6-2 victory. NJIT's third pairing of
Oscar Callo von Platen and
Pavel Petrov clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win.
Perez Ramos made it 2-0 with a dominating 6-0, 6-2 win at first singles to improve his singles record to 11-0 this season. Jenkins quickly followed up with a 6-3, 6-4 win to make the score 3-0, before
German Lopez Andujar clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win at sixth singles.
The Highlanders return to action on Wednesday when they take on UT-Arlington in the first of two matches in Texas next week.
