Split Weekend For Track and Field Begins With Wins At Metro Championships

NEWARK, N.J. — The NJIT track and field programs began another double meet weekend on Friday, sending team members to the Metropolitan Indoor Championships at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. and the first day of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Open at The Armory in Manhattan, N.Y.

METS HIGHLIGHTS

Despite not having full teams on hand, both team finished in the top six overall. The Highlander women led the way in fourth place while the NJIT men took sixth.
NJIT took the top spot in one event each on the women's and men's sides. Nia Holloway walked away with the gold in the Long Jump with a winning leap of 5.42m / 17-9.50. On the men's side, the 4x200 relay team of Andre Henry, JC Baratta, Jeusten Jourdain, and Lossenie Fofana won the event with a time of 1:29.68.
Other top three medalists included: Hayley Lucido in the 500 meters (1:16.72, silver); Nadia Zhecheva, Jenna Keith, Julia Canonaco and Kimmie Harding in the 4x800 (school record 9:40.07, silver); Anthony Dvorsky in the Mile (school record 4:16.49, bronze); and Dvorsky, Trotman Kertes, Joseph Mucci and Matthew Morena in the DMR (10:26.19, bronze)

RUTGERS DAY 1

Only two Highlanders attended the first day, and neither registered a result in their respective events.

NJIT will complete the weekend and the Rutgers event as a full collective on Saturday.
