Box Score NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT men's tennis team edged visiting Monmouth 4-3 on Thursday at the Naimoli Family Tennis and Recreation Center.
NJIT improved to 9-1 on the season and 7-0 at home with the win over the Hawks, the program's first since the 2014-15 season. Monmouth dropped to 7-2 on the season.
"It was a really good team effort today," said third-year NJIT Head Coach
Marco Matteucci. "Doubles didn't go our way and we certainly need to fine tune some things, but we were able to bounce back and win four singles matches. This was a really good win for us against a good team that is well-coached and always fights to the end!"
The Hawks got on the scoreboard first, taking a 1-0 lead after winning two of three doubles matches.
NJIT was able to turn things around in singles play, winning four of six matches, all in straight sets.
Pablo Perez Ramos continued his impressive redshirt sophomore campaign, improving to 9-0 this season at the first singles spot with a tight 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (8-6) victory.
Nejc Skorjanc (third singles),
Pavel Petrov (fourth singles), and
Oscar Callo von Platen (fifth singles) also earned wins for the Highlanders on Thursday.
NJIT will look to stay hot on Saturday when it travels to New Hampshire to take on #66 Dartmouth. First serve is scheduled for 9am in Hanover, NH.
