NEWARK, NJ–The NJIT men's and women's fencing teams both turned in strong performances at the Drew Invitational Sunday afternoon.
The NJIT men went 4-2 on the day with wins over Lafayette, Stevens, Wagner and host Drew.
Leading the day for the Highlander men was Christopher Cortez, combining for a 15-2 overall mark followed by Adrian Figueredo who went 12-3 on the sabre strip. Gonzalo Fernandez recorded a 9-4 record.
Aidan Doctor was the lone Highlanders on the foil strip to register double-digit wins, finishing the day with an 11-4 mark.
Niels Roubailo led the epee squad going 10-6.
The NJIT women combined for a pair of wins against LIU and Lafayette.
Leading the Highlander women was Gala Krsmanovic who went 13-5 in epee competition.
In women's foil competition, Stella Frias registered a 12-6 mark while captain Elena Fernandez Negron finished the day 9-5.
Freshman Zoey Wen combined for eight wins in sabre competition.
The two teams will return to action on November 22 at the Columbia Invitational. The match will begin at 5pm.
