2024 CSC Men's and Women's Soccer All-District Team
NEWARK, NJ–Three NJIT men's soccer players were selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday, including
Devin Armstrong,
Sergio Martinez Cubel and
Sokol Ymeraj.
Armstrong, a junior transfer from Palm Harbor, FL, boosted a 4.0 GPA and is majoring in Law, Technology and Culture at NJIT. The Highlander keeper has played and started in 17 matches this season, combining for a 6-7-4 overall mark, 60 saves, a 1.51 goals against average and a pair of shutouts. He posted a personal-best nine saves at Vermont. Armstrong ranks fourth in the league in saves per game (3.53). Armstrong was named Defensive Player of the Week one time this season and selected to the America East All-Academic Team.
Martinez Cubel, a junior from Sedvai, Spain, posted a 3.89 GPA and is majoring in Industrial Engineering. Martinez Cubel shares the team lead with four goals, one assist for nine points. Three out of four goals this season have come on penalty kicks, all three being successful. Martinez Cubel was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week one time this season. Martinez Cubel was selected to the America East All-Championship team and All-Academic Team.
Sokol, a graduate student from Fier, Albania posted a 3.92 GPA and is pursuing MS in Management. Sokol shares the team lead with four goals, one assist for nine points, including three successful penalty kicks.
The 2024 season marked the fifth straight appearance for the Highlanders qualifying for the America East Postseason Tournament under ninth-year head coach Fernando Barboto.
