Philadelphia, Pa. – The NJIT men's tennis team concluded its stay at the ITA Northeast Regional in Philadelphia this past weekend.
Pablo Perez Ramos played brilliantly in singles action while
Nejc Skorjanc and
Oscar Callo von Platen starred in doubles, reaching the quarterfinal portion of their respective draws.
Perez Rmos opened his tournament with a victory, 6-3, 6-4, over Filippos Astreinidis of Princeton. He followed that up by taking down Adamantios Stavrakas of Bucknell is short order the following day, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 before a win over Columbia's Sachin Palta, 6-4, 6-4, sent him to the quarterfinals. Perez Ramos' strong weekend would end there as he fell to the top seeded player in the bracket.
Skorjanc and von Platen combined for a strong run in the doubles draw, starting off with an 8-7 (7-5) win over Columbia on Friday. The following day, the duo posted a convincing win over a tandem from Penn, 8-2. On Sunday morning, Skorjanc and von Platen grinded out an 8-7 (7-2) win over Philip Hilble and Leon Harder from LIU to advance to the quarterfinals.
Perez Ramos and
Wil Jenkins also picked up a pair of doubles victories on the weekend, while
Tom Sorin and
Severin Risan earned an opening round doubles win as well.
Next up, both Perez Ramos and Jenkins will take part in the Southland Conference Singles and Doubles Tournament to be held this week in Hammond, La.
