NEWARK, N.J. - The NJIT women's soccer team (3-10-2, 0-5-1 AE) fell 2-0 against UMass Lowell (4-9-2, 3-3 AE) on Sunday at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium. With the loss, the Highlanders were officially eliminated from postseason contention.
In the 6th minute, the River Hawks appeared to score a goal, but an offsides call kept the game scoreless.
UMass Lowell's Calliste Brookshire hit a shot off the post in the 27th minute, as the game remained tied 0-0 at halftime.
Hope Santaniello scored the first goal of the game for UMass Lowell in the 63rd minute, assisted by Brookshire. Brookshire then scored her third goal of the season in the 81st minute to give the River Hawks a 2-0 lead. Brookshire recorded three points for the second straight game.
Caroline Caputo led the Highlanders with four shots, two of which were on target.
Samantha Constantine,
Kennedy Westbrook,
Sofia Mignon,
Maria Nogueira, and
Taylor Pape played the full 90 minutes.
UMass Lowell led in shots (24-9), shots on goal (9-5), corner kicks (7-2), and possession (67%-33%).
