Andreoli Scores In 3-1 Loss At UAlbany

ALBANY, N.Y. - Briana Andreoli scored her third goal of the season in the 32nd minute, but the NJIT women's soccer team (3-9-1, 0-4 AE) suffered a 3-1 loss against UAlbany (3-9-1, 2-2-1 AE) on Sunday at Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.
 
Andreoli's goal marked the 12th of her NJIT career, tying her for second all-time in the Division I era. She is also tied for fourth all-time in points (29) with Kori Washington during that same period.
   
NJIT had several opportunities to score in the game, starting in the 11th minute when Ciara Adams hit a shot off the crossbar. A few minutes later, Andreoli had a chance in the box, but goalkeeper Gabriella Terranova made a kick save to keep the game scoreless.
 
Samantha Constantine made a diving save off a UAlbany shot in the 26th minute. However, the Great Danes struck first with a goal by Selma Elverum in the 28th minute, assisted by Claire Owens and Sydney Waits.
 
Shortly after being subbed in, UAlbany's Flo Bartholomai scored her first goal of the season in the 40th minute, assisted by Casey Stowell and Joanna Van Royen, giving the Great Danes a 2-1 lead at halftime.
 
The Highlanders could not capitalize on scoring chances in the second half, starting with a Kelsey Ramos shot off the crossbar in the 63th minute. A few minutes later, Ramos took a shot from outside the box, but goalkeeper Emily Dorfman made a diving save. Dorfman made another diving save in the 84th minute off a shot by Caroline Caputo. NJIT had 11 corner kicks in the second half.
 
In the 83th minute, UAlbany's Van Royen scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Bartholomai.
 
Ramos (6) and Andreoli (5) led NJIT in shots. Seven Highlanders played the full 90 minutes, including Constantine, Merle Hueser, Caputo, Andreoli, Kennedy Westbrook, Sofia Mignon, and Maria Nogueira.
 
NJIT led in shots (20-16), shots on goal (9-6), and corner kicks (11-6), while UAlbany had a slight edge in possession (52%-48%).

NJIT will hit the road for a match against Binghamton on Thursday, October 18 at 6:07 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
