Andreoli's Goal Gives Women's Soccer Draw Against La Salle

NEWARK, N.J. — A late equalizer for the foot of sophomore Briana Andreoli helped the NJIT women's soccer team finish its match against the La Salle Explorers in a 1-1 draw Thursday evening at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

After falling behind early in the first half on a set piece goal (18'), NJIT (3-1-3) spent the rest of the game chipping away at La Salle (2-4-1), working to piece together possession and methodically increasing its pressure. The Highlanders finally broke through in the 87th minute as Maria Nogueira - the reigning America East Offensive Player of the Week - found Kelsey Ramos in the box from about 30 yards out, Ramos put a shot on goal that was saved, and Andreoli used her elite level speed to be first to the rebound and tap it home.

NJIT overcame deficits in shots (15-13), shots on goal (6-5) and corner kicks (8-2) to secure its second straight comeback result.

Samantha Constantine was able to stop four shots on the day, her second-highest tally of the year and the fifth-highest of her young career.

OTHER NOTES

Andreoli joins Gabby Zalot and Maria Nogueira as Highlanders with multiple goals so far this season.
Ramos was credited with the first assist of her career.
NJIT's season goal distribution now stands at 15 goals by 12 different players.
This is the second time NJIT and its opponent each finished with double digit shot attempts - both times have ended in ties.
The tie marks the first result NJIT has managed against La Salle in their four meetings all-time (0-3-1).
For the first time since 2019, NJIT is unbeaten at home in its first five matches (3-0-2). In 2019 - the opening year of the new Lubetkin Field - the Highlanders went without a defeat in their first six matches (4-0-2). Their only loss at home that year was a 1-0 defeat against Liberty on Senior Day on October 27 - which was avenged less than a week later during NJIT's last playoff win in the ASUN Conference Quarterfinals.
