ALBANY, NY - The NJIT baseball team was defeated 8-0 by host UAlbany in both teams' regular season finales on Saturday at Varsity Field.
NJIT won the first two games of the series on Thursday and Friday to clinch the series victory, but couldn't complete the sweep on Saturday.
The Great Danes scored three runs in the first inning and held the Highlanders to just four hits, while not allowing a run.
Ray Ortiz recorded two of the Highlanders hits, while
Austin Francis and
Cole Fleming each tallied one.Â
Croix Jenkins pitched a scoreless inning of relief for NJITÂ and
Drew Standen tossed 1.1 shutout innings.Â
The Highlanders will be the six seed in the upcoming America East Championship and will open play on Wednesday with a single-elimination game against third-seeded Binghamton. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm at the Bearcats Baseball Complex, which will host the duration of the tournament. The winner of the NJIT-Binghamton game will advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament, which will begin on Thursday.
