Highlanders Conclude 2023 Season at America East Tournament

#6 NJIT Falls to #3 Binghamton, 14-6

VESTAL, NY - The sixth-seeded NJIT baseball team saw it season come to an end on Wednesday as it fell 14-6 to host and third-seeded Binghamton at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.

The Highlanders started the game with a bang, scoring four times in the first inning off of Gabe Driscoll, who was named First Team All-America East earlier this week. Luke Longo led off the game with a single and after Ray Ortiz flew out to the wall, Kevin Putsky singled before an Andrew Elcock walk loaded the bases. Jared Donnelly crushed the first pitch he saw over the right field hall for a grand slam and put NJIT in front 4-0.

The lead was short-lived, however, as Binghamton answered with a seven spot in the home half of the first. The big blow was a two-out grand slam off the bat of Mike Stellrecht that put the Bearcats ahead 7-4.

NJIT made it a one-run game in the third thanks to back-to-back solo home runs from Donnelly and Ty Sallie. Donnelly's long ball was his seventh of the season, which ranks third on the Highlanders, while Sallie's was his second.

Binghamton added a run in the fourth to go ahead, before breaking the game open in the late innings.

Evin Sullivan hit a two-run shot in the seventh to make the score, before putting the game away an inning later with a grand slam that made it 14-6.

Donnelly and Cole Fleming each finished with two hits to pace the NJIT offense.

Wednesday's loss concludes the 2023 season for the Highlanders. NJIT finished the campaign with 22 wins and has now won 75 over the past three seasons for the first time in program history.
