Track And Field Teams Finish In Top Five At Metropolitan Championships

Men Claim Runner-Up Spot; Women Take Fifth Overall

NEW YORK, N.Y. — The NJIT track and field teams stood out amongst their peers during this weekend's Metropolitan Outdoor Championships, held at Icahn Stadium in New York City.

Both teams finished in the top five overall: the men ended as runners-up with 122 points while the women took fifth with 66 points

SCHOOL RECORDS
  • Lillian Williams, Sydne Nance, Amiyah Stephens, Nia Holloway placed fourth in the 4x100 Relay with a school best mark of 48.40, besting the 48.87 mark from last season at Princeton (Holloway/Nance/Williams/Jadyn Otto)
  • The men's 4x800 Relay of Fabian Herrera, Joey Mucci, David Essel and Reyden Davies claimed the event with a new record time of 7:52.54, beating the 8:04.04 Mucci, Essel, Matthew Morena and David Munera ran at the 2022 America East Championships.
  • Sanai Jenkins improved on her record in the 400 Hurdles (1:05.91 at last weekend's Colonial Relays) by running a third place time of 1:05.33.
  • Maria Owens took third in the Long Jump and matched Nia Holloway's record leap of 5.42m / 17-9.50 from last year's meet at Rider.
  • Jacob Leigh added a second win and improved record to his ledger, taking the 200 Meters with a new school best of 21.38 and beating his 2022 IC4A time of 21.60.
  • McKinleigh Mattie and Owens each bested Owens' 11.19m / 36-8.50 Triple Jump mark from last week's Colonial Relays, with Mattie now holding the title with a runner-up leap of 11.29m / 37-0.50 and Owens setting a new PR of 11.20 / 36-9.00 to finish in third.
  • Jason Ballen earned bronze in the Discus and bested former Highlander Connor Letko's 42.47m / 139-4.00 mark with his own toss of 43.70m / 143-4.00.
