Muscatella's Efforts Not Enough As Men's Lacrosse Loses To UAlbany

NEWARK, N.J. — Despite playing even early in the first half, the NJIT men's lacrosse team was defeated on the road against the UAlbany Great Danes Saturday afternoon at Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.

HIGHLIGHTS
1ST QUARTER
  • Vanzomeren won the initial faceoff and put the Highlanders ahead 12 seconds in on an unassisted score.
  • An extra-man score by UAlbany with 11:15 remaining tied the match up at 1-1.
  • The Great Danes took a 3-1 lead into the second after scoring two goals in the final 30 seconds. 

2ND QUARTER
  • NJIT bounced back to tie the game at 3-3 after a Devon Ford to Bowie connection (10:38) and a Muscatella solo score (9:34). 
  • UAlbany retook the advantage as a 5-0 run gave them their biggest lead of the game, 8-3, heading into the half. 

3RD QUARTER 
  • After UAlbany added a sixth goal to its run to open the half, Muscatella locked in his second consecutive hat trick with NJIT's next two goals to cut UAlbany's lead to 9-5 with 11:13 to go.
  • After a tenth UAlbany goal, Muscatella added his fourth of the contest on an unassisted effort to keep NJIT within four, 10-6.
  • The quarter would end with another UAlbany goal, sending the team's into the fourth with an 11-6 scoreline.

4TH QUARTER
  • The lowest combined scoring period of the game (3 goals) saw Hone get on the board with the help of Muscatella (11:03)

OTHER NOTES
  • Muscatella's four-goal showing was the fifth game of his career with 3+ goals, fourth of the season and second in a row.
  • Bowie set career highs in ground balls in back-to-back games (4 last week against Merrimack and 6 today).
  • Brown has now made 165 saves this season, 14 away from second place all-time at NJIT (178 by Nick Marzullo in 2016) and 44 from first (208 by Alexzander Hunt in 2019).

NJIT will play its final home game of the season on Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m. against UMBC.
