Owens, Leigh, Stevens Lead Track and Field On NJIT's First Day Of ECAC/IC4As

BOSTON — The first day of action at the ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships for the NJIT track and field teams produced a number of outstanding performances from the Highlanders.

TOP SIX MEDALISTS
  • Maria Owens scored NJIT's first points of the Championships with a fourth place finish in the Long Jump (5.49m / 18-0.25; 5 pts)
ONTO THE FINALS
  • Jacob Leigh advanced to the Sunday finals of the 60 meters and 200 meters with exceptional times. In the 60 prelims, Leigh finished 12th with a time of 6.97 - just 0.04 seconds off of the NJIT school record of 6.93 set by Daniel Leung back in 2018. In the semifinals, Leigh improved across the board - breaking Leung's mark with a new record of 6.90 and qualifying for the finals in eighth. In the 200, Leigh bested his own record time of 21.54 from the America East Indoor Championships with a new time of 21.52 and qualified with the fourth best time in the field.
  • Maddie Stevens continued her recent string of strong 200 meter runs, breaking the NJIT school mark set by her teammate Sydne Nance (25.25) at last year's ECAC/IC4A meet with a new best time of 24.37.
  • The highest-finishing finals qualifying effort came from Elisha Bugasch in the 500 meters, putting up the third-best time in the field with a mark of 1:05.18.
  • Bugasch teamed up with Jordan Lee, Lossenie Fofana, and Matt Bacchi to make the finals of the 4x400 Relay after logging an eighth place time of 3:17.93.
OTHER SATURDAY PERFORMANCES The final day of the ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships will take place on Sunday, March 5.
