RICHMOND, VA - The NJIT baseball team was edged 1-0 by host VCU in non-conference action on Sunday in the final contest of a three-game series at The Diamond.
With the win, VCU completed the series sweep, which included a pair of one-run victories over the Highlanders.
Starting pitcher
Joe Georgini continued his impressive season on the mound, allowing just one unearned run over six innings of work. The veteran's ERA is now an impressive 2.89 through 28 innings this season.
Georgini handed the ball to freshman
Brandon Peterson, who pitched a perfect seventh inning and worked around a leadoff single in the eighth for another scoreless inning.
The game's only run came in the fourth inning when it appeared NJIT would cut the run off at home, but an errant throw allowed the Rams to score.
VCU's Mason Delane was tremendous on the mound, allowing just two hits and pitching to just one batter over the minimum.
Ray Ortiz and
Ty Sallie each recorded hits for NJIT on Sunday.
The Highlanders return to action on Wednesday when they make the short trip to Seton Hall for their first midweek contest of the season. First pitch is slated for 4pm.
