SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The NJIT baseball team was defeated 7-1 by host Seton Hall in non-conference action on Wednesday at Owen T. Carroll Field .
Seton Hall scored a pair of runs in the second inning and doubled its lead to 4-0 in the third inning.Â
The score remained 4-0 until the Pirates added two more runs in the seventh inning.

The Pirates added an insurance run in the eighth and held the Highlanders off the scoreboard in the ninth to preserve the victory in the first of two meetings between the teams this season.Â
Jared Donnelly finished with two of NJIT's seven hits on Wednesday, while also drawing a walk and stealing a base.Â

Sam Beck was the Highlanders' top pitcher, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen to go along with a strikeout.Â
