CHARLOTTE, NC–Queens (NC) swept visiting NJIT 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-23) Friday evening to wrap up non-conference men's volleyball action for the Highlanders.
NJIT's Josh Gregg led the way for the Highlanders with 10 kills followed by Jens Feldthus (7), Antonio Feliciano (6), Antonio Fedmasu (5) and Braeden Goebbert (5).
Griffin Fieseler combined for a double-double with 32 assists and 11 digs while Feliciano recorded 10 digs. Libero Christian Trevino posted six digs.
In the first set, Queens began the match, taking an early 7-2 lead and later in the mid-teens, Queens scored five of the next seven points to take a 19-12 lead and force NJIT to call its first timeout of the set. Queens went on to record a 25-18 win to go up 1-0.
Queens continued its strong offensive play in the second frame, jumping out to a 6-3 lead. The Royals scored seven of the next 10 points and would go on to clinch the set 25-15 for a 2-0 lead.
The third set, the closest of the three, saw the Highlanders take an early lead, 6-4 and pushed its lead to 20-17. Queens sparked a run which saw four of the next five and knotted the score at 21, forcing a timeout for the Highlanders. A pair of kills by Queens forced the match point at 24-23, before an attack error by NJIT clinched the sweep.
NJIT will return to EIVA Conference action on Tuesday, March 21 at 6pm when the Highlanders host George Mason inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.
