NEWARK, NJ–The NJIT women's basketball team will look for its third straight win of the season on Wednesday when the Highlanders host UMBC.

Game Information
Tip off is slated for 7pm inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center and will be streamed lived on ESPN+ with in-game statistics available for free on NJITHighlanders.com.

All-Time Series
The game on Wednesday will mark the fifth time the two teams are meeting with the series tied at 2-2.  Earlier this season, UMBC's Laycce Drake hit a three-pointer in the final seconds to earn the thrilling home victory over visiting NJIT, 61-60, in America East Conference action inside Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena.

With 1:50 on the clock, NJIT's junior Aria Myers connected on her second straight three-pointer to give the Highlanders a one-point lead, 59-58.  Sophomore forward Trinity Williams followed with a steal off an UMBC in-bounds play and hit on one-of-two from the free throw line to push the NJIT lead to two, 60-58, with :02 remaining.

Out of a timeout, UMBC's Drake received the ball on the left side of the floor, took two dribbles and launched a floater just behind the arc off one foot to give the Retrievers a 61-60 lead.

America East Player of the Week - Kenna Squier
In a 2-0 week for the Highlanders, Squier nearly averaged a double-double, combining for 18.0ppg, 9.0rpg and shooting an impressive 68.4% from the field (13-for-19).

Squier recorded 14 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals in the Highlanders road win at New Hampshire on February 1 to sweep the regular season series from the Wildcats.

On Saturday, Squier registered her third career double-double, netting a game-best 22 points (two shy her career-high), 10 rebounds (one-shy her personal-best mark) and shot 7-for-10 from the field in NJIT's 68-50 home victory over UMass Lowell.

America East Conference
The Highlanders currently sit in fifth place in the America East standings with a 6-4 record while the Retrievers sit in fourth place with a 7-4 mark.  This season, NJIT has wins over Binghamton, Bryant, and season series sweep against New Hampshire and UMass Lowell.  

1K Milestone for Kenna Squier
Kenna Squier became the 12th player in the NJIT women's basketball history (5th in the NJIT Division I era) to reach the 1,000 career point milestone on Saturday, January 14 at UAlbany.  Squier currently sits with 1,017 points, which is 10th all-time.

On Monday, January 23, 2023, Squier, who scored over 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds at Pope John High School had her jersey number (#24) retired. 

Scouting UMBC
UMBC is coming off a big home victory over Maine, 74-57, on Saturday, February 4 paced by a double-double from Kiara Bell (17pts, 10reb) and Ashia McCalla (16pts).  UMBC led Maine by 11 at the half and took its biggest lead of the game 56-35 at the end of the third quarter.

K.K. White and Bell pace the Retrievers in scoring (11.2ppg) and (11.0ppg) respectively.  The duo rank 12th and 13th in the America East in scoring.

Bell ranks third in rebounding at 8.4rpg and blocked shots 1.4bpg.

NJIT will hit the road this weekend and make the trip up to Maine for a 1pm tip off on Saturday, February 11 on ESPN3.
