NEWARK, N.J. — One, two, three times a winner.
NJIT Men's Swimming and Diving freshman
Francois Malherbe has been named America East Male Swimmer of the Week for the third time this season and second time in as many weeks, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
Malherbe paced NJIT during a 3-0 weekend during a quad meet against Virginia Military Institute (177-122), UMBC (208-89) and Howard (203-95) at the VMI Aquatics Center.
The South African newcomer won the 50 Free (20.09), 100 Free (44.73), and 100 Fly (48.21), setting VMI pool records in all three and setting NJIT records in the 50 Free and 100 Fly. His three VMI records - in the pool that will host the 2024 America East Championships - were part of the 11 pool marks the Highlanders set in every win they recorded.
NJIT has now claimed a program-high five AE weekly awards this season and nine all-time America East weekly honors since joining the conference in July 2020:
NJIT will close out the 2023 calendar year at the three-day ECAC Winter Championships, scheduled for December 1-3 in East Meadow, N.Y.
