Newark, NJ - The Highlanders were looking to rebound after a very lopsided defeat to Sacred Heart at home on Saturday night. The team played a very inspired and competitive game, but the
Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks won 9-6 at RWJ. NJIT is now 0-3 in ACHA games and 0- 2 in games within the MCHC.

The Ducks jumped out to 4-0 in the 1st period, but Sal Micciche would score on the power play during a five-minute major with 12 seconds remaining. Rohan Ganta and Noah Bergen got the assists, but Stevens would respond shorthanded with 3 seconds left. They would take a 5-1 advantage into the locker room.

The 2nd period would be one of the best periods the Highlanders would play thus far in the young season as they scored 5 goals in the period. It would not start well as Stevens scored 30 seconds into the period when the teams played 4 aside. But the Highlanders would get their 2nd goal a few minutes later when Matt Francescutto got a tally on a 2-man advantage power play.

Bergen got the lone helper. The Ducks would get their 5th shorthanded goal more than a minute later to regain their 5-goal lead. NJIT would score 4 unanswered goals to end the period with Ganta scoring 3 of the goals, the last one coming with 9 seconds left to make a one-goal deficit at 7-6. Bergen had the other goal in that over 12-minute span.

Unfortunately, the Highlanders could not complete the comeback in the 3rd period. NJIT took 5 penalties in the period that stifled any opportunities to mount offensive pressure to tie the game.

They killed off all the infractions, but that gave Stevens enough puck possession and offensive zone time to score two in the period to finish the game. Colby Puletz made 47 saves in his 2nd official ACHA game of the season.
