Men's Ice Hockey Falls, 5-2, to Drexel

NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT men's ice hockey team began their home portion of their 2026-2027 season at RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House after losing to Stevens last Saturday. The Drexel Dragons won 5-2 on Sunday night. The Highlanders now have a record of 0-2 in ACHA games.

The Dragons got the lone goal in the 1st almost midway in the period. They would lead by that score after twenty minutes. Drexel would extend their lead to three in the 2nd period with two goals. NJIT would get on the board with less than a minute left when Freshman Mayeul Catelin scored his 1st goal as a Highlander on a point shot. Brandon Clayton got the lone helper on the goal.

The Dragons would score two more goals (including one on the power play) to have their biggest lead at 4 goals. The Highlanders would finally score on the power play on a 5-minute major penalty with less than two minutes remaining. Senior Niko Scherrer would deposit the goal with Anton Martino and Noah Bergen getting the assist. Elliot Marken would make 27 saves in his 1st start of the season.

NJIT will have two road games next weekend, Friday at Hofstra and Saturday at Seton Hall for a preseason ACHA game. The Highlanders next home game will be on October 18th against Rutgers ACDC.
