NEWARK, NJ - Pablo Perez Ramos, a sophomore on the NJIT men's tennis team, was named Southland Conference men's tennis Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Perez Ramos went undefeated in a pair of singles matches and also went 2-0 in doubles play as the Highlanders rolled to a pair of 7-0, shutout victories over Rider and Hofstra to begin the 2023 season 2-0. 

Against Rider, Perez Ramos was victorious via a 6-3, 6-4 decision at #1 singles and he teamed up with senior Josh Smith for a dominating 6-1 victory at the #1 doubles spot.

In Sunday's win over Hofstra the Spain native gave up just one game to his #1 singles opponent, winning 6-0, 6-1. Perez Ramos once again teammed up with Smith at #1 doubles, this time winning 7-6. 

Perez Ramos is the first NJIT student-athlete to win a Southland Conference weekly award after the men's and women's tennis teams joined the conference in the summer of 2021. Last season NJIT, an affiliate member, was ineligible for weekly awards.

Perez Ramos and the Highlanders will look to continue their hot start to the season on Friday when they host LIU at 3pm in the Naimoli Tennis Center.
