Women's Soccer Shut Out By Hartford

NEWARK, N.J. — The NJIT women's soccer team suffered a rare 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Hartford Hawks Thursday evening at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

Despite posting their second-highest shot differential (+8; 16-8) and second-most corners (5) of the year, NJIT (1-2-4) was handed their first home loss of the year, their first home shutout defeat by three or more goals since 2017 (6-0 vs FGCU, Oct. 6) and their first home loss by that margin or more since 2018 (5-1 vs Lipscomb, Sept. 21).

NJIT also doubled up Hartford (5-1) on shots on goal, 6-3, but were unable to capitalize on their quality chances. Unfortunately, the Hawks' three shots on goal all corresponded with their three scores - a trio of unassisted goals in eighth, 31st and 78th minutes.

One positive the Highlanders can lean on is holding Hartford's Imani Jenkins - who entered Thursday's match tied for the national lead in goals with eight - scoreless for the game with only two shots and none on goal.

EXTRA TIME
  • For the first time in her current 51-match career, redshirt Molly Saylor did not record at least one save in a game. Saylor currently sits 12 away from 300 career saves with 288.
