Women's Soccer Scores Twice, Shuts Out Saint Peter's On The Road

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The NJIT women's soccer team earned their way back into the win column with a 2-0 victory over the Saint Peter's Peacocks Sunday afternoon at Jaroschak Field.

THE RUNDOWN
  • After netting two goals in their last three games, NJIT (2-2-4) logged its third multi-goal outing of the year with a pair against the Peacocks (1-7).
  • Senior Nora O'Connor scored the eventual game-winner early in the first half (15'), dodging a defender and putting away her second career goal and first of the year from distance from the left side.
  • Freshman Maria Nogueira came off the bench and added an insurance goal - the first goal of her career - in the 74th minute, pressing the Saint Peter's goalkeeper after she mishandled a box service from graduate student Angela Harris and hitting the ball home.
  • Redshirt senior Molly Saylor made three stops on the day and earned her fourth shutout of the campaign and record 18th of her illustrious career (4 in 2019, 1 in 2020, 9 in 2021, 4 in 2022).
  • NJIT finished with the lead in the shots battle (11-10; trailed 8-4 at halftime) and corner kicks (5-2).

EXTRA TIME
  • The win was the Highlanders' 11th straight against Saint Peter's, a streak that dates back to 2010.
  • Against the Peacocks, NJIT is currently on a five-game shutout streak with a goal differential of +21 (21-0 in the last five wins).
  • Nine different Highlanders have now scored this season (Adams, Vito, Chamberlain, Ramos, Caminos, Watson, Caputo, O'Connor, Nogueira) in eight games, nearly matching last year's tally of ten in 19 contests.
  • After just one multi-goal game in 2021, NJIT has posted three so far this year (4 vs LIU, 2 vs St. John's) and has a record of 2-0-1 in those games (0-2-3 when they score 1 or fewer).
  • NJIT's last ten wins as a program have all been shutouts. The last time NJIT won a game that was not a clean sheet was its 3-1 season opening win over Drexel to open the 2020 (Spring 2021) campaign.
