Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Foiled By Binghamton In Final Minutes

VESTAL, N.Y. — An 89th minute goal from Binghamton's Peyton Gilmore was the difference between a potential 0-0 draw and a 1-0 defeat for the NJIT women's soccer team Thursday evening at the Bearcat Sports Complex.

THE RUNDOWN
  • Tonight's matchup played out like six others have over 12 games this season - with both teams knotted at 0-0 at the half.
  • One of the best chances all game for NJIT came in the 22nd minute, as freshman Maria Nogueira nearly put home a Ciara Adams cross to the front of the net but her shot was saved.
  • The Highlanders (2-5-5, 0-2-1 AE) put a couple more chances on goal - senior Bailey Chant's shot in the 32nd minute and a late shot from freshman Riley Jones in the 89th that would have tied the game - but all three were stopped by Binghamton keeper Kaitlyn Williams.
  • The cross that set up the game-winner for Binghamton seemed like a routine play for redshirt senior Molly Saylor but a late bounce and a Bearcat player closing in on her airspace made the play more difficult, leading to the ball deflecting off of Saylor to Gilmore.
NEXT UP
NJIT will look to bounce back in a big way over the next three games - all at home in Newark. The first of those three contests is Sunday, October 2 at Noon against UMass Lowell.
