Baseball Falls to Stony Brook on Senior Day

Highlanders Wrap Up Non-Conference Action Tuesday at Fordham

UNION, NJ - The NJIT baseball team was defeated by visiting Stony Brook in America East action on Sunday afternoon at Jim Hynes Stadium.

Prior to the contest, the Highlanders held their annual Senior Day Ceremony, celebrating their seven post-graduates and six seniors.

Aidan Kidd started on the mound for NJIT and tossed three scoreless innings, leaving the game with a 1-0 lead thanks to a Luke Longo RBI single in the first inning.

Stony Brook took the lead with a two-run home run in the fourth inning and held its lead until the sixth inning when Isiah Daubon hit a double to left field that scored Paul Franzoni and tied the game

The Seawolves answered almost immediately, however, plating four runs in the seventh to go ahead 6-2.

An RBI double from Albert Choi made the score 6-3 later in the seventh, but the Highlanders were unable to claw all the way back, despite getting the potential tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth.

Choi, Franzoni, and Jared Donnelly each led NJIT with a pair of hits on Sunday. Choi also stole three bases and now has a team-high 16 this season.

Kidd struck out four hitters in his three innings of work, while Evan Gegeckas punched out five batters in 3.1 innings. Grant Vurpillat finished the game on the mound for NJIT and didn't allow an earned run in 2.2 innings.

NJIT returns to the field on Tuesday when it heads to The Bronx to take on Fordham in its final non-conference game of the regular season. First pitch is slated for 3pm.
