UNION, NJ - The NJIT baseball team fell 12-8 in non-conference action at Monmouth on Wednesday, but
David Marcano and
Julio Marcano continued their impressive respective careers in defeat.
David Marcano led off the game with a home run and hit another one later in the game for the first two home-run of his career, while
Julio Marcano's second-inning bases loaded walk was his 126th-career RBI, which ties the program record for the Division I era (2007-present).
NJIT (16-15) scored again in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from
Ray Ortiz to make it 3-0, but Monmouth (18-16)Â answered with five runs in the home half of the third to take a two-run lead.
Nick Hussey hit his second home run of the season, a two-run shot to left-center field, in the fifth to tie the game, but the Hawks once again answered, this time with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to go back ahead by two runs.
David Marcano hit his second home run of the game in the sixth to make it 7-6 and the Highlanders tied the game again later in the inning, this time thanks to an RBI double from
Paul Franzoni.Â
The Highlanders took the lead in the seventh on an RBI single from Ortiz before the Hawks once again tied it on a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning. Monmouth then scored four times in the eighth to go ahead 12-8, which held for the final score.Â
Franzoni and Ortiz joined
David Marcano with a pair of hits to pace the NJIT offense on Wednesday.
The Highlanders return to the diamond on Friday when they begin a three-game America East series with Binghamton in Union, NJ. First pitch of Friday's series opener is slated for 6pm.
