NEW HAVEN, Conn. — NJIT Women's Tennis grad Joleta Budiman took part in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Super Regionals this weekend on the campus of Yale University.
Budiman - who advanced to Super Regionals after three straight wins at the ITA Northeast Regionals earlier in the month - played a tough opening match against a local opponent in Princeton's Lenna Bennetto and was defeated 7-5, 6-3.
Budiman was able to earn more experience by playing against Yale's Rhea Shrivastava and put out another strong effort before falling 7-6, 6-0.
"Joleta performed brilliantly this weekend. I know she wanted the win, but she fought hard against a very tough competitor. The ITA Super Regionals is a collection of the top 32 best women's tennis players in the east and Joleta belongs in that group. I can't wait to see what the rest of the year holds for Jo if her play continues at this level," head coach
Patricia Piorkowski McDonald said of Budiman's performance.
Despite the outcome, Budiman's standing as one of the top 32 players in the Northeast is solidified.
