PHILADELPHIA–The NJIT women's fencing team posted strong performances Saturday at the Philadelphia Invitational to kick off the 2022 season.
The NJIT women went 4-4 with wins over Sacred Heart (18-9), FDU (23-3), Lafayette (16-11) and Haverford (18-7).
The women's epee squad which consisted of Paula Zugasti, Dominika Pawlowska and Marina Arrese combined for an impressive 68-13 overall record for a winning percentage of 84. Individually, Zugasti posted a 24-3 mark (winning percentage of 89, Pawlowska (23-4; winning percentage of 85) and Arrese (21-6; winning percentage of 78).
Sophomore Cassandra Sehic notched a 21-5 record in the women's saber competition for a winning percentage of 81.
Paloma Almodovar went 10-3 in foil competition for a winning percentage of 77.
The Highlanders will be in action on January 30 at the Eric Sollee Invitational at 10am.
