Women’s Basketball Returns Back to the WEC to Host Pair of Games

NJIT hosts Binghamton on Saturday at 3pm as part of a doubleheader with the NJIT men

NEWARK, NJ–The NJIT women's basketball team returns back to Newark to host a pair of America East Conference games, first welcoming Binghamton on Saturday at 3pm inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.

NJIT Athletics Updated Spectator Policy | Full Release
All spectators ages 5 and older, must be fully vaccinated and provide proof upon entry. Masks remain required for all non-participants, in compliance with America East conference, NCAA, and NJIT guidelines. 

These policies are effective immediately.

Proof of vaccination will be required for all spectators, in compliance with the City of Newark's Executive Order.

Game Information
Tip-off is slated for 3pm inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center and for those not able to attend the game can watch via ESPN3 with in-game statistics available on NJITHighlanders.com.  Saturday's game is part of a doubleheader with the NJIT men, tipping off at 7pm against the Bearcats.

All-Time Series
Binghamton leads the all-time series 4-2.

In the first meeting two weeks ago, NJIT sophomore Lyzi Litwinko recorded her third career double-double (19 points, 13 rebounds) to lead the Highlanders in a close 66-64 road victory at Binghamton.

Nine Wins for the Highlanders
The nine wins for the Highlanders are the most since the 2016-17 season when NJIT finished with 11.

The 4-0 Start in Conference Play
NJIT started off the season 4-0 in conference play for the first time in the NJIT Division I era.

2021 Rewind
The NJIT women's basketball team picked up its first win of the season and it was a big one, recording its first Big Ten program win with a 61-49 victory at Wisconsin on November 14, 2021.

The win over Wisconsin started a three-game win streak for the Highlanders (ast time the Highlanders won three straight was in 2019-20 during a stretch of a pair of wins at home against St. Francis Brooklyn (Nov. 26, 2019) and Saint Peter's (Dec. 4, 2019) and on the road at Hartford (Dec. 7, 2019).

With a win at St. Francis Brooklyn on December 11, NJIT closed out the non-conference slate with a 5-6 overall record.  

NJIT closed out 2021 with a bang, knocking off preseason favorite and defending America East Champions Stony Brook on December 30, 54-49, at home inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.  It was the first time NJIT defeated the Seawolves in five meetings.

Highlander Hits
NJIT, on a two-game skid, enters Wednesday with a 9-8 overall record, 4-2 in the America East. 

The Highlanders, which started out 4-0 in the America East have dropped its previous two contests to UAlbany and Vermont.  Kiana Brereton led NJIT with a season-best 13 points and five rebounds in the Highlanders 71-49 loss.

Squier leads NJIT in scoring at 11.8 points per game while Lyzi Litwinko and Ellyn Stoll join Squier in double-figures at 10.5 and 10.3 respectively.  Litwinko paces the Highlanders with a team-high 6.8 rebounds, which ranks sixth in the league. 

Stoll, NJIT's three-point threat as she ranked fourth in the league with 1.9 makes from beyond the arc per game and has combined for a total of 29 this season.

NJIT ranks fifth in the America East in both scoring (59.6) and fourth in scoring defense (62.1) while leading the conference at (4.47) blocks per game.

Next Up
NJIT will wrap up its two-game homestand, welcoming UMBC on January 26 at 7pm.  

In the first meetings of the season, NJIT earned the win at UMBC, 72-58.
