Nance's School Record Highlights Track & Field's Time At Gotham Cup

1/21/2022 10:06:00 PM

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Competing in their fourth straight meet at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility, the NJIT men's and women's track & field teams once again produced standout performances at Friday evening's NYC Gotham Cup.

TOP PERFORMANCES
  • The Highlanders' meet was highlighted by senior Sydne Nance, who followed up last week's victory in the 200 meters with a second place finish this week that was fast enough to break NJIT's decade-plus-old school record in the event. Nance's PR of 25.54 edged out the school - and freshman - mark set by former Highlander Kelsey Jackson (25.75) back in 2011. Nance was edged out by an unattached runner, making her time the best among collegians in the event. Her run also placed her third on the current America East performance list.
  • Jacob Leigh solidified his spot on the America East performance list in the 200 meters, besting his time of 22.12 from the Wagner Invitational two weeks ago with a second place and PR run of 22.08 on Friday.
  • Nadia Zhecheva finished her 800 meter race in third place overall with a time of 2:22.50, a new PR that should move her into the AE top ten in the event.
OTHER TOP TENS OTHER NOTES & PRs
  • Nance barely missed the top ten in the 400 meters, clocking in at 1:00.47 for 11th place.
  • Leigh has run three 200 meter races this season and all three of his times now rank in the NJIT all-time top five in the event (22.08 on Jan. 21, 22.12 on Jan. 7, 22.20 on Jan. 14).
  • Jadyn Otto: 60 Meters (8.45); 200 Meters (27.62)
  • Eugene Graves III: 200 Meters (22.56)
  • Andre Henry: 60 Meters (7.53)
  • Thomas Van Saders: 500 Meters (1:07.16)
  • Joseph Mucci: 800 Meters (2:04.23)
  • Thomas Kelly: Weight Throw (11.58m / 38-0.00)
