NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT men's tennis team extended its season-opening winning streak to five on Saturday, shutting out visiting Wagner 5-0 at the Naimoli Tennis Center in Newark.
The Highlanders are now 5-0, while the Seahawks are winless through two games this season.
"It was a solid performance," said Head Coach Ira Miler. "It was nice to get our fifth-straight win and now we are focused on tomrorow's match at Army."
For the fourth-consecutive match, NJIT got on the scoreboard first, this time sweeping both doubles matches.
Josh Smith and
Samuel Townes won 6-0 at #1 doubles, while
Ammar Fekry and
Ashwin Kanetkar were victorious by a 6-1 score at the #2 doubles spot.
The Highlanders took their momentum into singles play, sweeping all four matches getting wins from Townes, Kanetkar, Fekry, and
Juan Bejarano.Â
Townes and Kanetkar are each 5-0 in singles play this season, while Fekry and Bejarano picked up their second and first wins of the season, respectively.
NJIT will look to make it six in a row on Sunday when it travels to West Point, NY, for an 11am match against Army West Point.Â
