COLUMBUS, OH--The NJIT men's and women's fencing teams completed its final day at the Ohio State Invitational on Sunday.
The NJIT women went 4-3 on the weekend with a win over Wayne State (24-3) on Sunday and wins over Air Force (15-12), Denison (24-3) and Wayne State (13-5) on Saturday.
The NJIT men picked up wins over Wayne State on both days (18-9 on Saturday; 22-5 on Sunday).
The women's epee squad was led by Marina Arrese with a 17-2 mark followed by Dominika Pawlowska (12-7) and newcomer Paula Zugasti (11-8). Arrese was perfect with 3-0 wins over Ohio State, Air Force, Denison and Wayne State and went 2-0 against Duke.
The sabre squad was paced by Dorottya Berczy and Cassandra Sehic with 10 wins each. Berczy recorded 3-0 records against Denison and Air Force while Sehic recorded a 3-0 mark against Notre Dame and Denison.
Sophomore Cristian Candescu led the way for the men's foil, posting a 11-7 overall record with a pair of wins over Notre Dame, Wayne State, Air Force and Duke. Rourke Hillyer combined for 10 wins in epee competition.
The NJIT men will return to action on February 14 at the Temple Invitational against Johns Hopkins, St. John's and Penn State.
The NJIT women will return to action on March 6 at the Temple Invitational against Lafayette, Sacred Heart and Temple.
