LEXINGTON, VA - The NJIT baseball team was defeated 8-7 by host VMI in a game that was called in the bottom of the fifth inning due to weather issues.
The Highlanders led 3-0 after one inning and 7-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth, before the Keydets scored six runs to take the lead and win the game when it was called due to the inclement weather in the Lexington area. NJIT won the first game of the series on Thursday, but VMI took games two and three to clinch the three-game series.
NJIT was led offensively by
David Marcano, who was 3-of-4 and
Paul Franzoni, who knocked in three of the team's seven runs. Marcano and
Albert Choi each scored a pair of runs in Friday's loss.
Tyler Stafflinger started on the mound for the Highlanders and pitched four innings, striking out four Keydets.
NJIT will return to action next weekend when it heads to The Bronx for a four-game series at Fordham. The series is scheduled to begin with one game on Friday and continue with two more on Saturday, before wrapping up with one game on Sunday.
