NEWARK, N.J. --- A rain-soaked matchup between the NJIT women's soccer team and the Binghamton Bearcats went the way of the visitors as the Highlanders fell to the Bearcats. 2-1, in double overtime Sunday afternoon at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

Despite the inclement weather, the match started off very well for NJIT (4-10, 2-3 AE). In the eighth minute, senior Angela Harris put the Highlanders ahead by converting a post-save clearance from redshirt junior Molly Saylor and a touch header from fifth year Christine Conaghy into a breakaway score.

Binghamton (8-5-1. 4-1 AE) would even the score in the 27th minute after a potential tripping foul in favor of the Highlanders was not called, which eventually led to an open shot and goal for the Bearcats' Maria Poulos.

The contest would go into halftime with the same 1-1 score and remain scoreless through the end of the second half and first overtime. With the game headed to a double overtime draw, Binghamton found a way to net the golden game-winner. An initial shot from about 20 yards out was saved by Saylor but knocked down into play, where BU's Peyton Gilmore awaited for the tap-in score.

OTHER NOTES

Harris' goal was the first of her Highlander career and made her the ninth different NJIT player to score this season.
Saylor stopped nine shots on the game, the eighth time in her career that she has made at least nine saves in a game.

NJIT will play the first of two straight road games on Thursday, October 14 at UMBC. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
