NEWARK, NJ--The NJIT women's fencing team saw strong season, reaching 22 wins, highlighted by freshman Dorottya Berczy advancing to the 2020 National Collegiate Fencing Championships, which was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.
USFCA All-American
Berczy was named to the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) 2020 NCAA Fencing All-American teams, earning second-team accolades.
NCAA Qualifier
Berczy, from Budapest, Hungary, was the top finisher for NJIT in the women's sabre event at the 2020 NCAA Regionals, earning an 11th place finish, in her first season at NJIT.
She went a perfect 9-0 at the LIU Invitational, 12-3 at the Elite Invitational, 13-2 at the Philadelphia Invitational and 14-4 at the Eric Sollee Invitational.
College Fencing 360 Final Rankings
Both NJIT fencing teams finished the 2019-20 season, receiving votes in the College Fencing 360 rankings.
NJIT competed against three teams ranked in the top 10 -- Penn State, Penn and Yale. The Highlander women also faced Cornell, Duke, North Carolina, Johns Hopkins, Brandeis, Wellesley and Boston College, all of which received votes in the final rankings. NJIT defeated Boston College, 14-13, on February 1.
U19 Polish National Championship
Pawlowska earned a third place finish at the U19 Polish National Championship and earlier this season, placed 12th at the 2019 Junior World Cup.
