NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT women's fencing team will have nine fencers representing NJIT at the 2020 Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Fencing Championships to be hosted by Duke University in Durham, NC, on Saturday, March 7.
A fencer's performance at regionals will have a direct impact on their chance at qualifying for the NCAA Championships, as both their regular season resumé and placing at the regional meet will be considered when the field is selected next week.

Two Highlanders will represent NJIT in the women's foil -- Paloma Almodovar and Annalena Shigihara.
Almodovar, a sophomore from Madrid, Spain, will be seeded No. 15 after posting a 32-16 overall record (67% winning percentage).
She combined for a 14-4 mark at the Eric Sollee Invitational and 10 wins at the Elite Invitational.
Shigihara, a junior from Bonn, Germany, will be seeded No. 32 after finishing the 2019-20 season with a 26-24 mark (52% winner percentage).
She combined for an impressive 16-1 overall record at the Drew Invitational.
In the women's epee, Marina Arrese, Dominika Pawlowska and Christy Hernandez (alternate) will represent the Highlanders.
Arrese, a sophomore from Madrid, Spain, will be seeded No. 9 after combining for an impressive 42-9 overall record on the season (82% winning percentage).
She recorded a 17-1 record at the Eric Solle Invitational, 15-3 mark at the Philadelphia Invitational and 10-5 mark at the Elite Invitational.
Pawlowska, a freshman from Zielona Gora, Poland, will be seeded No. 15, posting a 25-14 overall mark in her first season as a Highlander.
She notched a 15-3 record at the Eric Solle Invitational and 5-1 mark at the Stevens Invitational.
Hernandez, the Highlanders alternate, posted a 30-45 overall record this season.
Four Highlanders -- Dorottya Berczy, Cassandra Sehic, Janine Bacchus-Joseph and Amanda Soliman will represent NJIT in the women's sabre.
Berczy, a freshman from Budapest, Hungary, will be seeded No. 6 after posting a 48-9 overall record (84% winning percentage) in her first season at NJIT.
She went a perfect 9-0 at the LIU Invitational, 12-3 at the Elite Invitational, 13-2 at the Philadelphia Invitational and 14-4 at the Eric Sollee Invitational.
Sehic, a freshman from Highlands Ranch, CO, will be seeded No. 22, combining for a 49-33 overall record (60% winning percentage).
She combined for a 12-1 mark at the LIU Invitational and went undefeated, 15-0, at the Drew Invitational.
Bacchus-Joseph, a freshman from Irvington, NJ, will be seeded No. 29, after posting 15 wins in her first season at NJIT.
Soliman, a junior from Millington, NJ, will be seeded No. 30, notching a 38-29 overall record (57% winning percentage). She combined for a 11-3 mark at the LIU Invitational, 13-2 at the Drew Invitational and 10 wins at the FDU Invitational.
