NJIT Baseball Strands 12 Baserunners in 3-1 Loss at Fordham

Highlanders Open Up Four-Game Series at Texas Rio Grande Valley on Friday

BRONX, NY - The NJIT baseball team suffered a 3-1 setback to host Fordham in non-conference action at Houlihan Field on Wednesday.

Fordham (6-6) scored a run in each of the first and fourth innings before NJIT (6-5) finally got on the scoredboard in the top of the fifth with an RBI from Andrew Elcock.

The Rams regained their two-run lead in the bottom of the eighth and got a double play with runners on first and second and one out in the ninth to preserve the victory.

NJIT tallied six hits and had another five players reach base via walks Wednesday, but was unable to come through with run-scoring hits as it left 12 runners on base in the loss.

The Highlander pitching staff had one of its best performances of the early season, holding Fordham to just three runs.

Parker O'Neil pitched a pair of scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 2.25 through 16 innings this season. David Marcano, the reigning ASUN Conference Player of the Week, paced the NJIT offense with two hits.

The Highlanders return to the diamond on Friday when they travel to play a four-game series at Texas Rio Grande Valley this weekend. The first game is scheduled to begin at 7pm (CT) on Friday. Live stats and video will be avaiable for all four games.
