EDINBURG, TX- The NJIT baseball team was defeated 11-1 by host Texas Rio Grande Valley on Friday evening in the first of four games against UTRGV.
NJIT (6-6) went down 1-0 early as the Vaqueros (7-7) scored a run in the first inning, before the Highlanders tied the game at 1-1 in the sixth inning,
UTRGV scored the next 10 runs en route to the double digit victory over the Highlanders.
Luke Longo paced the Highlanders' offense with three hits, while starting pitcher
Tyler Stafflinger struck out eight batters over six innings.
NJIT and UTRGV will both be back in action on Saturday when they begin a doubleheader at noon.Â
