NEWARK, NJ - A pair of freshmen earned wins on Sunday, but it wasn't enough as the NJIT men's tennis team was defeated 5-2 by the defending Navy, the defending Patriot League Champions at the Naimoli Tennis Center.

Navy improved to 13-5 on the season, while the Highlanders are now 1-6.

"We're getting better with each match." explained Head Coach Ira Miller. "Josh and Ammar both pulled out tough three setters and the team was right into it until the end."

The Midshipmen took the first point of the afternoon by earning victories at both first and second doubles. The third doubles match was unfinished after the visitors already clinched the point.

In singles play, NJIT got wins from Josh Smith at third singles and Ammar Fekry at sixth singles. Both Highlanders dropped their first set, but battled back to win the next two.

NJIT returns to the court next weekend when they visit a pair of Ivy League foes. On Saturday the Highlanders will travel to New Haven, CT, to take on Yale, before heading south to battled Princeton on Sunday.
