FARMVILLE, VA - Four NJIT pitchers combined to allow just one hit as the Highlanders rolled to a 13-0 win to open a three-game weekend series at Longwood on Friday.
NJIT (3-2) scored twice in the second inning and added three more in the third inning to break the game open. The Highlanders scored at least one run in each of the next five innings to add to their lead over the Lancers (1-5).
Tyler Stafflinger started on the mound and tossed five innings to earn his first victory of the season.
Parker O'Neil came in and threw a pair of no-hit innings, before Alex Dibona and
Bryce Short pitched the eighth and ninth, respectively, while also not allowing a hit.
NJIT's offense erupted for 12 hits in Friday's victory, with
Andrew Elcock leading the way offensively. Elcock finished the game 3-for-5 with four RBI, while
David Marcano,
Dante Bozzuti and
Jared Donnelly each added two hits. Donnelly finished with three RBI including a run-scoring single in the second inning to put the Highlanders on the scoreboard.Â
Donnelly's double was one of five extra-base hits for the Highlanders. The sophomore also added a triple, as did
Julio Marcano.Â
The Highlanders also drew nine walks in the win as different players came around to score.
NJITÂ will look to make it three-straight wins when they return to the diamond for the second game of the series at Longwood on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 12pm.Â
