NEWARK, NJ--The NJIT men's fencing team went undefeated (5-0) Sunday afternoon, hosting the MACFA B vs. C Invitational inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.
Prior to the start of the meet, NJIT recognized its graduating seniors -- Christy Hernandez, Alexander Massa and Thomas Slawinski.
NJIT (22-16) registered wins over Maryland (25-2), Williams & Mary (27-0), Navy (24-3), Johns Hopkins (18-9) and Haverford (20-7).
Newcomer Cristian Candescu led the foil squad with a 9-1 overall mark followed by Thomas Manley who went 8-0 for NJIT. The Highlanders combined for a 37-8 mark on the epee strip.
Sophomore Rourke Hillyer paced the epee squad with a 9-2 record while Brett Bogert went 8-2, Daniel Freeman combined for a 7-0 record and Guido Liwski notched a 6-0 record. The squad went 40-5 overall on the day.
Senior Thomas Slawinski led the way for the saber squad posting a 15-0 overall mark while Andrew Richardson and Pedro D'Avila recorded 12 and 10 wins respectively for the Highlanders.
NJIT will return to action at the MACFA Championships on March 1 hosted by Drew in Madison, NJ.
